Susan’s Story

My Story
I knew by the distress in Dad’s voice that things were not as rosy as I thought.  The year was 2000 and I was living in Auburn, working for a law firm.  My parents were in their 80’s but doing quite well…or so it seemed.

One summer evening Dad took me aside to ask if we could visit the local senior centers.  Dad was on the original committee when Eskaton decided to build in Grass Valley, so he had a good idea about the facilities up here.  He felt it was time, and he knew he couldn’t take care of their multi-acre home in Nevada City as he had done for the past 35 years.  He was scared about so many things.

On this late August night I heard something in Dad’s voice that made me realize more was needed from me. The only alternative was for me to move in, which is what Dad and Mom preferred.

The following spring I moved into the downstairs bedroom and started looking for an in-home care provider that would be in the home while I was at work.

The time and effort it took for us to find someone we could trust and was competent was daunting. I didn’t know where to start or who to ask.  It was a risky and uncertain task. We did not know what or who we could be inviting into our home.  The chance of losing valuables or financial security was high.

Luckily we found a woman with extensive training and experience that we could trust. but not without exhausting every avenue.

I founded Shekinah Care to provide the highest quality of in-home care at a lower cost to you and/or your family. We are comprised of a group of highly qualified people, recruited and hand-picked from our community based referrals. We offer an extensive length of commitment to the business of safe in-home care, sensitivity, flexibility and reliability.

We do not operate like conventional in-home care agencies.

We do not hire or pay the care provider that you eventually select–they are paid directly by you.  This eliminates the high and sometimes unaffordable overhead and allows for higher quality of care to your loved one with a lower cost to you.  Now seniors can afford high quality, safe in-home care at a reasonable cost.
