How to Find Local Health Care Provider On Your Own

Finding the right caregiver can be arduous and confusing if this is your first time. Where do you go, who do you talk to? The task can be overwhelming so we’ve put together tips for you to use when first considering in-home help.

Make a list of services you will need.

  • Personal Care
  • Meal Preparation
  • Safe and healthy home environment
  • House keeping
  • Transportation
  • Hospice Assistance
  • Post-Operative Care

There are a number of care agencies in our area.  These are the questions you should ask:

Background Checks

We are by nature very trusting. We look for the good in people and trust them with our lives and our homes and our belongings; items we’ve saved for our children’s children. So doing a background check may seem overkill but it’s not. And anyone who is a genuine caregiver will comply with having fingerprints done at the local DOJ office.  Putting someone in your home without this can put you at risk.

References

You will need references (not related to them) and show length of commitment to the job of in-home care.

Trust

The most important thing is safety first. Know the person that you will be trusting with you and your home. Ask questions, and leave nothing unsaid or unasked. But as much as you may trust them make sure that all financial documents and personal items are locked away or given to family for safety.

If all of this seems overwhelming to you, especially at a time like this call us.  We’d be glad to walk you through any questions you will have and we can provide you with the perfect caregiver for you.
